About the practice

This well-established Hobart general practice is known for its close-knit, supportive team and its focus on personalised, high-quality care. Chronic disease management and proactive, preventive medicine are at the heart of how the practice works.

The team has strong ethics and values, and has worked hard to create a workplace where everyone looks forward to coming in. It is a good fit for GPs who want continuity of care and time to get to know their patients.

The building has been carefully refurbished with both staff and patients in mind. You will have a light-filled, well-equipped consulting room, modern treatment rooms and a spacious staff break room. Hobart Pathology is on-site, so patients can have bloods taken without leaving the building.

The GP role

The practice is looking for a permanent General Practitioner to join the team. Demand is high, and appointment books are already full, so you can build your list and your income quickly.

You can choose your hours within practice opening times, Monday to Friday. There is no weekend work and no on-call, which makes this a strong choice for UK and Irish GPs looking for a better work-life balance in Australia.

The Expedited Specialist Pathway for UK and Irish GPs

If you trained as a GP in the UK or Ireland, you could apply through the AHPRA Expedited Specialist Pathway. This route lets GPs with the MRCGP or MICGP apply directly to the Medical Board of Australia for specialist registration. You do not need to go through the longer college assessment process first.

In practice, this means you could be working as a GP in Hobart much sooner than through the standard route. We will guide you through each step, from registration to visa to relocation. This means that you could be departing the UK or Ireland and arriving in Australia within 6-9 months.

Why work as a GP in Hobart?

Hobart is the capital of Tasmania and one of Australia’s most liveable small cities. It offers:

  • A relaxed pace of life with a lively harbourside centre
  • Kunanyi/Mount Wellington right on the doorstep for walking and mountain biking
  • World-class food, wine and culture, including MONA and Salamanca Market
  • Easy access to Tasmania’s beaches, national parks and wilderness
  • A cooler, four-season climate that many UK and Irish doctors find easy to adjust to
  • Short direct flights to Melbourne and Sydney

For many UK and Irish GPs, Hobart offers what they moved to Australia for: rewarding work, better pay and time to enjoy life outside the surgery.
