Your Australian Recruitments Specialists
We are seeking general practitioners who have a passion for rural health and experience in emergency care.
If you’re after natural beauty, peace, and real connection — you’ll love King Island which offers a remote yet welcoming lifestyle, full of fresh local food, incredible beaches, and where there is no such thing as a rush hour traffic jam.
The Position
I am seeking a MRCGP (UK), MICGP or FRNZGP qualified doctor (see below) of FACRRM/FRACGP who would like to make a move to King Island in Tasmania.
The clinic is the only one on the island, located in its largest town, Currie, and it serves a resident population of around 1,400 plus all of the visitors who arrive all year ’round. It’s located next door to the hospital, which offers emergency and acute care (ATS CAT1-5 patients) and a mix of outpatient services, including mental health, physiotherapy and podiatry.
This is a definitely a hands-on, full-scope role and you will work a minimum of 9 sessions in general practice each week and participate in the hospital roster. You can expect to see 25+ patients per day in the clinic where you’ll receive dedicated on- and off-site operational and clinical management support.
The practice is open Monday to Friday plus Saturday mornings. Hospital on-call is on a 24 hour rotating roster Monday to Friday, and alternating weekends.
For this position, you must be proficient in general practice and trauma/accident and emergency and hold current emergency medicine certification (APLS, ELS, ACLS, PALS etc).
The Location
King Island is located in the Bass Strait which separates Tasmania from mainland Australia. Surprisingly it’s a 35-minute flight to reach Melbourne and it has daily direct flights there, as well as to Burnie/Launceston/Hobart in Tasmania.
Why do people love it?
- Two world-class golf courses (Cape Wickham & Ocean Dunes)
- Surfing, fishing, hiking, and wildlife watching
- Clean air, quiet living, and a connected community
- A thriving food scene — known for seafood, cheese, and beef
- An island that’s off the radar, but deeply rewarding to call home
What’s on offer?
- In-clinic earnings of up to $330,000
- Universal bulk billing
- Daily rate for VMO on-call up to $200,000 per annum
- 1:2 on-call, 7 days VMO (visiting medical officer) then 7 days GP-only
- House and car package – value $60,000
- Eligible location for procedural grants and Workforce Incentive Program payments (up to $25k in year 1)
